Installation Guide

Install server components of Alloy Discovery

Updated in 2021.2

Run your Alloy Installer and perform a full installation of Alloy Discovery. This will install both server and client components of the most recent version, including the administrative tools used later in the upgrade process.

Where to install the new version

If you want to leverage the pilot upgrade, it is important to choose the proper pilot environment.

  • From version 8 or later: A separate computer

Pilot upgrade from version 8 or later requires that you install server components of Alloy Discovery in a pilot environment, i.e., on a virtual machine or separate server computer, different from the production server hosting your production Inventory Server.

  • From version 7 or earlier: Your production server

For pilot upgrade from version 7 or earlier we recommend that you install server components of Alloy Discovery on your production server hosting the Inventory Server of the previous version. Those two versions can run together on a single computer.

IMPORTANT: When the installer detect your existing installation, make sure to clear the Uninstall Alloy Discovery 7/6 check box because it is still your production system.

Run the Alloy Installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install Alloy Discovery with the Full (Client and Server) installation option. If needed, refer to the detailed instructions below.
