Classification of Software Products

To facilitate tracking of different software, Alloy Discovery gives you the ability to classify software products by groups and categories. For example, you may configure a group that ignores certain products during the audit or a group for tracking installations of unauthorized software.

You can also define different categories for organizing software products based on a common function, type, or field of use. For example, you can create a category for classifying computer programs that perform user tasks (e.g. Application software), a category for classifying computer programs used to start and run computer systems and networks (e.g. System software), and a category for compilers and linkers (e.g. Computer programming tools).

NOTE: For users of version 6 and earlier: Software Products with inactive software recognition rules will be added to the Ignored group after the database upgrade or migration to the latest version of Alloy Discovery.
